“We’re here to do something that hasn’t been done before.”
This is what chef and food writer and author Tom Wills calls the “Food for Thought” movement.
The term refers to an emerging movement in which people who want to do good work for the environment, the planet, and the world’s poorest people want to come up with a food they can sell, in an attempt to spark change.
Wills is part of the group, which includes author David Katz and writer Michael Pollan.
“We see ourselves as the future food revolution,” says Katz, who recently launched a blog called The Food Revolution.
Katz, the founder of the nonprofit group Food for Thought, describes the food revolution as a “new paradigm in how we do food and how we deliver it.”
For Wills, who has been a food writer since his teens, it’s about making food taste good.
“It’s a really fun thing to be a part of, because you can’t make a living doing food, you can only do food because you’re making something that tastes good,” he says.
He’s also been involved in the Food Revolution in the United Kingdom.
“The whole thing is very, very exciting, but it’s also incredibly difficult.
The whole thing has to be supported by people with money and connections.”
For example, Wills says he’s received support from a philanthropic organization in the U.K. that gave him some advice on how to get more people to buy food.
Willing says he learned from these people.
“I just started asking questions and I saw what was happening with what they were doing,” he explains.
“And then I thought, ‘You know what?
If we can get the community to be like that, we can make a lot of money.’
And then I started thinking, ‘Maybe there’s some people out there that don’t need to work so hard.'”
Wills said that in the last five years, he’s helped to launch the first food truck in the world, the Tiki Taco Truck, in Brooklyn.
It has a large parking lot and it’s located in the back of a bar called the Coffee Bean.
Wiles also helped to create the Tastemaker Kitchen in Los Angeles.
He said that his idea for a food truck idea has been in the works for several years.
“You know, this idea was a big one, and it was a huge project,” he said.
“A lot of the people who are doing it right now are people who really know what they’re doing and they have a vision and they’re really passionate about it.”
Wills told us that he started the Food for thought movement in order to change the way people think about food and the environment.
He hopes that the food truck concept can become a real thing.
“Food is a very important part of our everyday lives,” Wills explains.
He added that he hopes that by helping to start a food revolution, people will see that the environment and food are important.
“If you’re hungry, you’re not starving, but you’re also not eating the right foods, you have to change your diet and you need to change what you’re doing to keep yourself healthy,” he explained.
Wises’ food truck, which he is calling “Foods for Thought,” will open in New York City this summer.
“At the end of the day, we are trying to make a difference, but that’s not just about making money,” Wises told us.
“That’s about trying to do better and make a positive impact on the world.”
We reached out to Wills to ask him about the future of food trucks and what his future plans are.
Will says that his hope is that the Food For Thought movement can eventually spread beyond the U, U.S., and other major cities.
“This is my dream,” he told us, “to have a global movement that reaches out to all people.
And I think that’s going to be one of the things that’s exciting about the Food of Thought movement.”
We asked Wills what he would like to see in the future.
“What I would like the next thing to do is make sure that the world has a better way to eat, because I think there’s a lot more people out here that are living in poverty and hunger, and I think food is the first step in helping to break that cycle,” he shared.
“So I would love to see more people being able to cook food.
I would hope to see a more affordable, more healthy way to live.
I also would like more people, particularly in the developing world, to be able to be more creative and to experiment.
And then to make the food better and more delicious.”
Food forthought is not the only food movement Wills has been involved with.
