The Agriculture Committee on Tuesday approved the bank, with support from agriculture committee chairwoman Diane DePasquale.

The bank, to be created by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), would provide funds to rural markets to help farmers and ranchers pay for goods and services, such as food, health care, and energy.

It would also provide loans to help small businesses pay for their own equipment and services.

The bill passed the agriculture committee on a 13-8 vote with three Democrats voting against the bill.

The bill would now go to the full Agriculture Committee for its consideration.

The Senate Agriculture Committee is expected to pass a similar bank bill this week, though the chamber has not yet decided on the bill’s fate.
