Why the US food industry is thriving but the food you buy is not

The US food sector is booming and that is because Americans are spending more money on it than ever before, according to a report from food marketing company Market Intelligence.

According to the report, US consumers spent $1.1 trillion in the first half of 2018, up 23.4% from the same period a year ago. 

According to the company, that spending was driven by consumers buying more packaged and packaged food. 

“The rise in spending is largely due to an increase in purchases by consumers,” said Brian Shaffer, president of Market Intelligence, in a statement.

“In 2017, consumers spent an average of $1,072 on packaged and ready-to-eat food, a 43% increase over the prior year. 

 “Consumers are spending a higher percentage of their disposable income on food, an increase of 11.2% from last year.” 

As a result, the report finds that the overall US economy grew by 2.9% in the quarter to December. 

However, the study says that Americans are still spending far less than they did in the past, and that there are still signs of a sharp slowdown. 

Despite that, Shaffer said that the food industry, as a whole, is booming. 

He said that in the last quarter, Americans spent an extra $1 billion on packaged food, up 15% from a year earlier. 

There are more people in the food service industry than ever.

“This is largely because of an increase from the food truck industry, which saw a 16.9 percent increase in spending. “
